NEWS -Defendant Acquitted after Expol review prosecution file

After reviewing a prosecution file and unused bundle concerning a man charged with serious criminal offences, our lead investigator prepared a report on breaches of procedure and the handling of exhibits. This resulted in our investigator being called to give expert witness evidence at a pre trial review. The proceedings were stayed by the Deemster (Judge), who stated in his judgement, ‘I record at this stage that I found him (EXPOL Investigator) to be an impressive witness, both in terms of his knowledge of Police investigation procedures and his evaluation of the significance to this investigation….’.  The defendant was acquitted.
